BPC in the News

This week, BPC’s fireside chat with Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) continued to draw attention, while Senior Vice President William Hoagland shared his thoughts on proposals to raise the minimum wage. Finally, Director of Economic Policy Shai Akabas reflected on the Congressional Budget Office’s projection U.S. debt would exceed GDP this year, saying that lawmakers must combat the pandemic before focusing on fiscal sustainability.

 

 

 

Last month, the Bipartisan Policy Center and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce announced a joint campaign urging Congress to enact an ambitious infrastructure package that will help put Americans back to work in good-paying jobs and build our nation’s economy for the future. The "Job One" campaign will include cable television advertising, as well as substantial digital advertising, including placements in influential Beltway news outlets and tip sheets, heavy video advertising, and social promotion.

BPC's Latest Work

Following the 2020 election, a procedure known as budget reconciliation has gained increasing attention as a possible vehicle for legislative action. BPC's Collier Fernekes and Michael Thorning answer six questions about the procedure and how it might impact the 117th Congress.

 

The independent and bipartisan U.S. Election Assistance Commission in February 2021 voted to adopt a new set of voting equipment standards. BPC's Rachel Orey and Owen Bacskai look into the new equipment guidelines.

 

Recent data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection showed another increase in encounters at the U.S.-Mexico border, to around 76,000 in January 2021. BPC's Theresa Cardinal Brown and Rachel Iacono explain what the numbers mean for President Joe Biden's immigration agenda.
