Dear friend,
Before the pandemic, an estimated 1 in 4 children were food insecure, and about one million New Yorkers were dealing with food insecurity; now, that number is estimated to have doubled.
The past year has been very hard for everyone, but one of the things that has continually given me hope is how our community has come together.
We can not allow our neighbors to go hungry, which is why I am so proud to be partnering again with BICS (Brooklyn Immigrant Community Support) to support food distributions in the district. Together, we will be distributing thousands of boxes of food throughout the spring to those in need.
We need your help to continue this important work. If you are able to do so, please consider donating: [[link removed]]
All of the money raised goes to help fight food insecurity across southern Brooklyn. Throughout the pandemic we’ve seen how people power and community are able to help lift up and carry some of the burdens left on our neighbors' doorsteps: [[link removed]]
There is no shortage of great organizations and initiatives working to lessen the effects of COVID-19 on our community. Just this week, The Peoples Pantry NYC launched in front of my office. This community pantry is a grassroots, crowd-sourced solution to immediate and local needs. Stop by any time, day or night, to take food if you need it or to drop off donations. You can send donations via Venmo to @ThePeoplesPantry_nyc.
Our office has compiled a list of community organizations that have been doing good work for years on addressing the needs of our community, please consider getting involved: [[link removed]]
Feel free to share this e-mail with your networks! Thank you all for coming together as a community!
With hope and love,
Andrew
