John, you make special stories like this one possible.

Hi John,

I was so deeply moved by this video and hearing about the friendship between Jacqueline, a Congolese refugee, and her neighbors Jenny and Chris in Boise, Idaho. It made me think of you and I wanted to share it this Valentine's Day.

Like the inspiring people in this story, you — a member of our IRC community — have taken action for the people we serve, even in these uncertain times. Thank you.

"We knew that we would make it in America — but the love... this love we had never experienced before."
— Jacqueline

Jacqueline was resettled with her five children in Boise in 2018. I think she put it best when she said, "I think love is contagious."

In her new home, Jacqueline was warmly embraced by Pastor Jenny Hirst, her neighbor, Chris Johnson, and her local church members.

This video was filmed in 2019, but Jacqueline, Jenny, and Chris's deep friendship has continued through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jenny chats with the family over Zoom and trades emojis over text with Jacqueline. They miss the spontaneous get-togethers and hugs they used to share and are hopeful that they can get together soon. Chris checks in with Jacqueline's family once a week and continues to offer any help they may need.

Thank you so much for welcoming refugees like Jacqueline, John, and for sharing love around the world.

With gratitude,
