John,
Did you know that in 2019, people earning between $10,000 and $20,000 received an average of just $850 from the Child Tax Credit while those earning between $75,000 and $100,000 typically received more than three times that amount, or the full $2,000 per child?
That makes no sense. And now we have an opportunity to change that.
Read Deborah’s email below for more details about how expanding the Child Tax Credit and increasing the Earned Income Tax Credit will help tens of millions of U.S. households. Then write to your members of Congress today to demand action.
As part of the new legislation, the Child Tax Credit would no longer be tied to a minimum amount of family earnings, so low-income families would receive the full amount. We will no longer say to families: Sorry, you are too poor to get help.
Together, we are demanding Congress act immediately to cut child poverty in half.

Tell Congress:
"We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to improve the lives and futures of millions of U.S. children and cut childhood poverty in half. I urge you to vote in favor of the expansion of the Child Tax Credit and raise the Earned Income Tax Credit for millions of struggling workers and families at this time of urgent need."

John,
The COVID-19 pandemic has created incredible health and economic problems for millions of U.S. families. The statistics chronicling the suffering are both stunning and hard to fully absorb.
Within the past month, more than 12 million people in households with children said that they sometimes or often did not have enough to eat; more than four in ten in households with children are having a tough time just paying for their regular household expenses. But now we have a precious opportunity to do something about it.
We need Congress to act now to lift millions of people out of poverty and prevent millions more from falling through the cracks.
Join CHN and our national coalition to demand Congress immediately increase the Child Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit to help millions of struggling people and families. Click here to send a letter to your U.S. Senators and Representative today.
According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities: "President Biden’s $1.9 trillion emergency relief plan includes a Child Tax Credit expansion that would lift 9.9 million children above or closer to the poverty line, including 2.3 million Black children, 4.1 million Latino children, and 441,000 Asian American children."
This expansion of the CTC is a once in a lifetime opportunity to lift millions of children and families out of poverty. Congress can improve it further by ending the exclusion of children in immigrant families who lack Social Security numbers.
Additionally, an increase of the EITC would help 17 million of the poorest adults without dependent children who are often frontline workers―cashiers, food preparers, and home health aides―who either now don’t qualify at all or get so little that the taxes they pay can push them deeper into poverty.
Write to your U.S. Senators and Representative and demand Congress act swiftly to help U.S. families that are struggling in this terrible pandemic.
Only with a groundswell of support can we prompt swift action―and prevent cuts in other services that would undermine this great advance.
Thank you for all you do to demand accountability from our political leaders and to fight for the needs of the vulnerable, the sick and the poor.
