Hi John,

Today marks three years since the senseless tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. On Valentine’s Day 2018, a former student, armed with an assault rifle and 300 rounds of ammunition, killed 17 students and staff and wounded 17 others in just a matter of minutes.

Today, we honor all those impacted by this violence—the 17 lives stolen, the 17 wounded, the hundreds of students and staff who experienced the shooting firsthand, and the countless families, friends, and community members forever changed by this tragedy.

Today, we also reflect on what has changed since then. In the aftermath of Parkland, students stood up to demand change. They added new energy and substance to the gun violence prevention movement and have inspired us all to fight harder for a safer, more just future.

The changes we’ve already made in Washington and the changes we’re fighting for now are not enough on their own. We need action at the federal level to address the gun violence epidemic. President Biden ran on the strongest gun violence prevention platform in history and promised to act if elected. So far, he has issued more than 40 executive orders, but none has addressed gun violence.

We know he is facing the daunting task of controlling the pandemic and charting a path for recovery. But gun violence prevention can’t wait. We cannot recover from the hardships of the last year if our communities are crushed by gun violence.

Join us in asking President Biden to honor the victims of Parkland, and all gun violence victims, by taking action to prevent gun violence.
