Bennet for Colorado

Hello,

When the great people of Colorado elected me to the United States Senate, I took an oath to fight for my constituents, uphold the Constitution, and protect our country from enemies both foreign and domestic.

With that promise in mind, I had no choice but to vote to convict Donald Trump after he was impeached in the House for the second time.

Let us remember that today is not cause for celebration. It is a solemn day for our country. I take no pleasure in this process. But it is my duty and responsibility to protect the American people, and that is exactly what I’ll do.

Impeachment is not about vengeance. It’s not a partisan stunt. It’s about justice and fulfilling our oath to future generations that we’ll uphold the law.

For months, Donald Trump has peddled lies and conspiracy theories claiming the presidential election was rigged. And on January 6, Trump incited right-wing rioters to invade our nation’s Capitol and demand Congress overturn the results of a democratically-held election.

These disturbing events give us a renewed sense of how fragile our Democracy truly is, and remind us that we have a responsibility to tend to it and protect our Republic. It is the work of our lifetime.

We have a long road ahead of us to undo the damage of Trump’s presidency, and I’ll need you on the team every step of the way.

Thanks,

Michael
