Friend,

The terror and trauma of January 6 did not end when the Capitol was finally secured and cleared of insurrectionists. It didn't end when Donald Trump left the White House for the last time.

The powerful presentation by the House impeachment managers this week reminded us just how close we came to an even greater tragedy on January 6, and how a series of lies told for months laid the groundwork for that fateful day.

I was not surprised that all but a few Senate Republicans lacked the courage to convict Donald Trump for his role in inciting the attack on the Capitol. Trump's toxic influence on his party remains strong, and won't be receding anytime soon.

But it's clear that those who stood up for the truth today are on the right side of history. Because the facts are simple: Trump knowingly whipped his supporters into a frenzy, watched with glee as they stormed the Capitol, and praised them.

I know that re-watching the footage from January 6 this week was difficult for many. But it was necessary to enter into the historical record the full narrative of what happened, how it happened, and why it happened.

History will convict Donald Trump and his enablers for what they did, and the truth will win out.

-Jennifer
