"These are the things ... that happen."

That's what Donald Trump tweeted from the White House after a violent mob of his supporters carried out a deadly attack on the Capitol, Friend. After doing nothing to stop the riot, he had not a bit of remorse.

Trump's tweet was an unmistakable signal that he stands ready to mobilize his mob yet again. He is ready to continue fueling domestic terrorism – weaponizing it as a political force in the future.

I'll never forget how real the harrowing threat of physical violence felt that January day. Going down the hallway and stairs, we saw the mobs and rioters through the windows brandishing Confederate and Trump flags. Shock and terror were evident in the faces of staff and senators.

We cannot allow a political leader to inflame this violence in an attempt to overturn an election ever again. That's why I just voted in the Senate to convict Trump for incitement of insurrection. Had my Republican colleagues had the courage to do the same – to stand up for what they know is right – he would be barred from ever again running for public office.

But 43 Senate Republicans voted to acquit. Now, because of their cowardice, Trump poses a real and present danger to the national security of our country.

We will not forget who cast those votes. Who chose party over country. Who dishonored the lives of the five people who were killed that day by standing behind the person responsible for their deaths.

History will condemn Senate Republicans for their despicable actions, but it's critical that we hold them accountable right here, right now. If you want to stand with me on the right side of history, add your voice alongside mine today:

Sign your name now to condemn Senate Republicans for voting to acquit Donald Trump of inciting the deadly insurrection at the Capitol on Jan. 6. Ensuring they are not exonerated is up to the American people.

Thank you for speaking out at such a pivotal moment.
