Governor Lamont has officially released a proposal to legalize
and regulate the adult use of marijuana in Connecticut, setting
the stage for a debate in the state legislature that could lead
to the legal sale of recreational cannabis in our state by May
2022.

According to Governor Lamont's proposal, taxed sales of
recreational marijuana would generate an estimated $33.6 million
in tax revenue for Connecticut by 2023, growing to $97 million by
2026.

A large portion of sales revenue would go toward municipal aid
to "reduce property taxes, increase services, promote social
equity" -- and this proposal would also automatically erase all
convictions prior to October 2015 for possession of less than
four ounces of cannabis.

Neighboring states like New Jersey and Massachusetts have
already legalized marijuana -- now Connecticut must decide if it's
time to join them.
