While Washington is once again retreating to its partisan corners on national COVID-19 relief, Governor Hogan has secured near unanimous legislative approval [link removed] of his Maryland COVID-19 relief plan, which delivers tax relief and economic stimulus for struggling families and small businesses. The plan passed the Maryland House of Delegates 128-1 and the Maryland Senate unanimously. Governor Hogan got this deal done in a little over a month, despite the fact that the opposing party maintains overwhelming control of both chambers of the legislature.

While Washington Gears For Partisan Fight, Governor Hogan Secures Near Unanimous Legislative Approval of Emergency Tax Cuts & Economic Relief Package

While Washington is once again retreating to its partisan corners on impeachment and national COVID-19 relief, Governor Hogan has secured near unanimous legislative approval [link removed] of his Maryland COVID-19 relief plan. Governor Hogan’s RELIEF Act, which delivers tax relief and economic stimulus for struggling families and small businesses, was passed by the Maryland House of Delegates 128-1 after passing the Maryland Senate unanimously. 

Governor Hogan passed [link removed] this emergency legislation in a little over a month, despite the fact that the opposing party maintains overwhelming control of both chambers of the legislature.

ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Hogan released the following statement after meeting with President Biden and Vice President Harris in the Oval Office to discuss COVID-19 relief: 

“I greatly appreciate the opportunity to be one of the first governors to meet with President Biden and Vice President Harris as we work together to end this horrific pandemic. 

“At this time when so many Americans have stopped believing that democracy can work for them, we must show that Republicans and Democrats in Washington can work together to get important things done. We cannot afford another partisan process with one party dictating to the other.

“As I told President Biden, there is no reason why he and Republicans in Congress cannot forge a compromise that addresses the nation’s top priorities in this crisis. I will continue urging Republicans in Congress to be willing to compromise, and I urge the president to lead by finding the common ground where we can all stand together.

“I also urged President Biden to take any imaginable step in his power to increase the production of vaccines. We have built the statewide vaccine distribution network needed to vaccinate every Marylander. We just need the vaccines and the support from the federal government.”

In New National No Labels Ad, Governor Hogan Urges Washington To Live Up To Promises of Unity, Pass Bipartisan COVID-19 Relief Deal ​

In a new national ad campaign from No Labels, Governor Hogan is urging leaders in Washington to make the COVID-19 relief bill bipartisan with “both sides at the table offering the best ideas.” Questioning whether promises of unity were “empty words,” Governor Hogan argues a bipartisan compromise is “the only way to stop the vicious cycle of divisiveness and dysfunction.”

According to Governor Hogan, “this moment demands humility and bipartisan cooperation, not more take it or leave it or partisan obstruction.”

Politico: In COVID-19 Crisis, Governor Hogan Sets Example For Washington on Bipartisan Action ​​

While Washington once again retreats into its partisan corners, a new piece [link removed] in Politico outlines how elected officials outside of Washington like Governor Hogan have worked across party lines during this global pandemic.

As “a spokesperson of sorts to all governors” during the COVID-19 crisis, Governor Hogan has consistently pulled together bipartisan groups of governors to take necessary action in the face of Washington dysfunction. In one instance, Governor Hogan “brought together a coalition of five Democratic governors and five Republican governors and, with the help of the Rockefeller Foundation, developed a compact with several American companies that were producing rapid tests for COVID-19,” 

Governor Hogan is also continuing to urge Washington to follow this “example” by forging a bipartisan compromise on COVID-19 relief. Earlier this week, he appeared in a No Labels ad [link removed] urging President Biden and Republicans in Congress to work together “to stop the vicious cycle of divisiveness and dysfunction.”
