WHAT'S HAPPENING
NEW MEXICO HOUSE TO DEBATE ABORTION BILL AFTER IT PASSES IN SENATE

The House will debate HB-7 next week after the Senate yesterday passed SB-10, the radical extension of abortions in New Mexico. The vote was 25-17 with two Democratic Senators joining Republicans in opposing this bad bill.

The House will now address the bill which would repeal New Mexico’s 1969 abortion law that outlaws the procedure.

“This is a sad day for New Mexico," said RPNM Chairman Steve Pearce. “It’s unthinkable that this bill has passed. Life is sacred, and this horrible legislation is immoral and wrong. This bill allows for late-term abortions and provides no protections for young girls, women and health care workers. This bill also eliminates the ‘conscience protection clause’ that would allow health professionals to opt out of procedures they oppose based on moral, ethical or religious grounds. New Mexico will continue to be known as the late-term abortion capital of the country. This is a shameful bill that gives the abortion industry carte blanche and endangers the lives and health of girls and women in our state.”

Gov. Lujan Grisham supports the legislation.

HOUSE PASSES BILL TO ALLOW VOTING RIGHTS TO MURDERERS AND RAPISTS

The Democrat-led House has passed legislation by a vote of 44-24 to give voting rights to rapists, murderers and pedophiles. This is another example of the left-leaning Democrats pampering criminals as Albuquerque sees crime spiraling out of control. The City is already on a pace this year to easily shatter its record murder rate. Crime in New Mexico is increasing. The Senate will soon debate the bill.

“Tone-deaf Democrats voted to restore felon rapists, murderers and child sex offenders voting rights, on the same day Albuquerque has seen 4 murders in 24-hours,” said House Republican Whip Rod Montoya (R-Farmington). “It appears the Democrats' response to out-of-control crime in NM is to protect the criminal instead of the victims.-

CAPITAL PROJECTS TRANSPARENCY LEGISLATION PASSES HOUSE

The New Mexico House of Representatives has backed a bill that would require the Legislature to publish a list of capital projects approved each year, including details about project costs and sponsorship.

Currently, final projects are published, but not how much each legislator has allocated. The House voted 65-1.

This is a good bill that offers open and transparent government. It's important to know how dollars are being spent, particularly when it's the taxpayers' money. There must be accountability and fiscal responsibility.
