John,

Over the past few days, House Impeachment Managers have made an undeniable and compelling case that former president Donald Trump incited a violent insurrection. They did so skillfully and passionately, doing their duty to defend our democracy.

I knew that my friend Jamie Raskin and the other House Managers would be excellent — they would be prepared and articulate in making the case. But I was so moved by the power of the case they laid out to the Senate and the American people. That Jamie was able to muster the strength to serve as Lead Manager, having endured the horror of losing his son and a terrifying experience at the Capitol on January 6th, was simply incredible, and a testament to his character and love of country.

With never-before-seen videos and audio from that disturbing day showing just how close the armed rioters were to members of Congress, the Senate, and even Mike Pence and his family, Jamie and the managers made it clear: While January 6th was horrific, we were mere moments away from an even bigger catastrophe if not for the brave actions of Capitol police, many of whom were horrifically injured while defending our democracy.

And just like in the first impeachment, the stakes this time are the same. The House Managers warned, once again, that if the Senate fails to hold Trump accountable for these despicable actions and disqualify him from future office, he may do it again. No one should want to take that risk.

I can attest from personal experience: What Jaime and his team did this week was not easy. It’s truly a grueling job. But they stepped up and did it to hold this dangerous man accountable to the rule of law and ensure it never happens again.

Let’s show the House Managers how much we appreciate the work they’ve done to stand up for our democracy this past week: add your name next to mine to tell them thank you. [[link removed]]

If Senators approach their vote with an open mind and carefully listen to the evidence, there will be no doubt about it: Donald Trump must be disqualified from public office.

For our nation’s safety and our democracy, I hope enough Republican Senators have the political courage to do what is right.
