Being rich
and white shouldn't grant you special access to the COVID vaccine before
you're eligible.

But that isn't stopping hospitals from doing just that:

[ Seattle ]Seattle Times headline: 'Special invitation only' COVID-19 vaccination
clinics at Seattle-area hopsitals raise concern of equity

While those eligible to finally receive their vaccine were scrambling to
find a shot, hospitals invited donors, board members, fundraisers, and
others to register for special COVID-19 appointments regardless of their
eligibility. And it's not just in Washington State — these disturbing
stories are popping up all across the country.

That's why I helped lead a letter to the Department of Health and Human
Services calling for an end to this profoundly unfair and unjust practice.

that HHS outright ban preferential access to COVID vaccines?

Communities of color have been devastated by COVID-19, experiencing a
disproportionate rate of infections, hospitalizations, and deaths. But
only 5% of COVID vaccines given so far have gone to Black Americans and
only 11% have gone to Latinx Americans. That is unacceptable.

While the rapid distribution of COVID vaccines is necessary to crush the
virus, it needs to be fair and equitable. The Department of Health and
Human Services must act quickly to address the structural racism evident
in vaccine distribution as public health officials begin to expand
eligibility to more populations across the country.

[ [link removed] ]Vaccine distribution can and should be done in a just, equitable, and
transparent manner. Add your name to our petition calling on HHS to end
preferential access to COVID vaccines.

In solidarity,

Pramila
