Dear John,

As we celebrate Black History Month, it is important to remember that history is happening right now.

Black leaders are stepping up to fight the ever-present injustices in our country and make history in politics, activism, entertainment, and much more.

Black Americans have – and continue to – profoundly shape the democracy and country we have today.

As Congressman, I am committed to paving the way for future generations of Black leaders and achieving progress on the long road toward justice.

Will you support me as I fight for racial justice across Georgia and the United States?

While we designate February as Black History Month, the richness of Black history cannot be confined to a month. We must always make a conscious effort to highlight the vast range of African Americans’ achievements, experiences, and struggles throughout our nation’s history.

There is so much progress to be made and we must continue on the journey of building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive nation. Today and every day, I urge you to honor those who fought before us by advancing the mission of racial justice.

Sincerely,

Congressman Sanford Bishop
