The proposed Republican COVID-19 relief package is so small it would be kind of funny if it weren’t so cruel.
After months of stalling and billions in giveaways for the ultra-wealthy, the GOP would rather push more Americans into poverty than give real aid to all those struggling.
Reminder: there are now roughly 10 million fewer jobs in the economy than when the pandemic started. Yet the GOP doesn’t want state or local governments to receive a dime of funding for pandemic response. They don’t want a livable wage. They’re refusing to fund rental assistance. And much more.
Want to learn more about the GOP’s so-called “relief plan”? Watch our partners at Tax March break it all down -- in post-it note form.
Honestly, Americans need real relief now.
Biden’s $1.9 trillion relief plan is the exact same size as the GOP’s $1.9 trillion tax sham in 2017. Their hemming and hawing about the deficit just doesn’t fly. Families need to put food on their tables and keep roofs over their heads far more than billionaires need to buy more yachts.
More to come soon.
