No Bail Out for Incompetence đ«
Iâve said it before and Iâll say it again: COVID relief must be targeted to those in need. This includes targeted funding for small businesses, the backbone of what makes our country great, many of which have been forced to shut down by government decree. Thatâs not what the Democratsâ most recent $2 trillion-dollar spending bill does. The bill bails out blue states that have mismanaged their budget for years.
West Virginians should not have to bear the burden of Democrat-led states that have participated in reckless spending for years. In ramming through their liberal wishlist, the left is overlooking the Byrd Rule created by West Virginian native U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd in 1985. This rule was intended to stop the irresponsible budget spending we are seeing today. By requiring 60 votes in the Senate to pass budget bills, it was meant to enforce the legislative process and debate. Instead, Democrats today want to fast track their legislative agenda without proper negotiation on what the best solutions for the American people are.Â

Investing in Infrastructure đÂ
I joined my colleagues in writing to President Biden to include broadband investment in rural communities in his infrastructure package. High-speed broadband is essential for families and businesses. In West Virginia, many lack the proper infrastructure necessary for broadband connectivity. Thatâs not to mention the inevitable economic growth that it enables.Â
The digital divide between rural and urban America must be bridged. Amid COVID-19, it became clear that some students do not have the proper access to the internet for remote learning. We hope the administration will work with us to address this important matter.
Promoting Religious Freedom đđ»
I recently introduced the Protecting Religious Freedom in America resolution. If adopted, this bill would help safeguard the rights of Americans to freely practice their religion. Americans should never have to fear the free and rightful practice of their beliefs. In Congress, I will continue to work to defend these fundamental rights enshrined in our Constitution.
WV Knows How to Do Cocoa Bombs đ«
Youâve surely seen them all over social media. Cocoa bombs took flight over the winter and rightly so! If youâre confused by the process, allow us to explain: After pouring hot milk into a mug, the chocolate melts and magically releases the marshmallows and cocoa hiding inside. Recently West Virginian Teri Blevins from Lilâ Bit of Heaven Cupcakes in St. Albans, shared her recipe with her idol, Paula Deen!Â
