I hope that you and your loved ones are safe and well today.

Last month, we watched in horror as a violent mob, incited by former President Donald Trump and fueled by lies, racism, white supremacy, and anti-Semitism, stormed the Capitol and attempted to overturn a presidential election. The evidence revealed during the first few days of the Senate’s impeachment trial has clearly shown beyond any reasonable doubt how Donald Trump’s words and actions—before and on January 6—directly led to the violent attack on the Capitol.

We believe that Donald Trump and all who contributed to inciting the violent attack at the Capitol must be held accountable. As a non-partisan, non-profit organization, the work that we do to advocate for wildlife and people depends upon strong and secure democratic institutions. We have a responsibility to stand up for the peaceful transfer of power, which is the foundation of our democratic republic and a bedrock American value that transcends party and ideology.

John, please join us in calling on the Senate to convict Donald Trump.

To ensure such an attack on our democratic institutions never happens again, we are urging the Senate to come together and hold former President Trump responsible, as a bipartisan majority in the House did when they voted to impeach. Holding every individual who abetted or carried out the attack accountable, including the seditious rioters, former President Trump, and culpable members of Congress, is a critical step towards restoring our democratic institutions that—when secure and functioning—are essential to enacting and enforcing laws to protect our environment for people and wildlife.
