The day was filled with ideas and inspiration on the issues impacting the Muslim-American community. In our first panel, candidates running for public office shared some of the issues that they will be tackling in New York City if elected. They include 1) investing in affordable housing; 2) right to counsel for renters; 3) developing community land-trust; 4) housing and gender justice; 5) small business support, and 6) transportation equity among many other top priorities.

Next, in our panel on learning from national organizers, our speakers shared important insights into how Muslim-American activism and our narrative is shaping on a larger scale. Salam-Al-Marayati emphasized the "importance for Muslims to have a presence and a seat in every public sector"; Salima Suswell emphasized the importance of "pivoting from Muslims-Americans' activism on getting out the vote work to pushing for real policy changes from the local to federal"; Margari Hill shared the importance of "transformational organizing and the importance for SHOWING UP FOR EACH OTHER."

Thank you to everyone who joined us as an audience. We hope the discussions shed light on how our community is shaping up and the priorities we must focus on in the coming years. Don't forget to join us in our upcoming events celebrating Black History Month. As always, to help us continue this work, consider dropping a donation to help us continue shaping the narrative for Muslim-Americans!
