Hi there,
Prominent GOP-allied lawyer Chuck Cooper has spoken: “The Constitution doesn't bar Trump's impeachment trial.”
With few viable defenses left for dismissing Trump's involvement in the insurrection on the Capitol, Republicans' argument of “unconstitutionality” is also fading fast. It's hard to argue that a president inciting a violent overthrow of election results doesn't qualify as “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors,” per the constitution.
Look, we all know that failing to convict Trump in the Senate will be bad news for our country. Republicans will have the go-ahead to continue peddling extremist conspiracy theories to their supporters, and they will also know that a future attack on our democracy will only lead to inconsequential punishments.
Mitch McConnell and his fellow Senate Republicans know how to work the system, but we can't keep on letting them get away with their abuses of power. We know Americans are divided on the issue, which is why we need to know if our supporters will stand with us. Please, let us know now:
Do you support Trump's conviction?
Thanks so much for your input -- it's critical to our efforts.
