2020 Victories to Celebrate: How the Dirty Dozen List Made the Internet Safer

Safer Internet Day focuses on the idea that everyone plays an important role in making the internet better.

We're so thankful for all of the advocates (YOU!) who took action via our 2020 Dirty Dozen List, and brought changes to corporations! The internet is a safer place now because of you.

In the past year, we've had progress with major companies like Amazon, Google, and Netflix to name a few!

Question: Why Can't Self-Regulation Fix Pornhub (or the Pornography Industry?

Answer: MindGeek’s business model—which is a (massive) subset of the pornography industry’s business—is predicated on harming performers.

Therefore, no amount of “self-regulation” is going to be able to magically “fix” the racism, misogyny, and violence inherent to the production of pornography.

VICTORY: Google No Longer Allowing Ads for Prostitution

Since 2013, we've been working with Google to make changes in order to stem sexual abuse through its products used by over a billion people.

Now, Google has updated their policy and will no longer allow advertisements for prostitution, or sugar dating.

They are also moving all sexually explicit content to be categorized as "Inappropriate."

he directly contributed to and profited from

the sexual exploitation of women for the majority of his career,

and our culture is poorer for it." —Dawn Hawkins
