Millions of workers still lack jobs... but the Senate votes as if we still needed more workers

Even several Republicans vote against the Cruz amendment that would have made it harder to expand foreign-worker visas.

Dear John,

This is no time to flood our job market with new workers! Yet the Senate just voted to allow itself to approve more and more visas to foreign workers in the upcoming budget bill without needing a separate, public vote.

All Democrats, including Joe Manchin (WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (AZ), voted along with ten Republicans like Lindsey Graham (SC), John Thune (R-SD), Susan Collins (R-ME) and Deb Fischer (R-NE) to defeat a key amendment that would have protected American workers.

Sen Cruz's amendment would have allowed senators to raise an objection if the budget bill included provisions to increase foreign-worker visas. This would have allowed senators to force a vote on those increases. You see, the Senate Democrats plus the ten Senate Republicans WANT TO BE ALLOWED TO KEEP INCREASING the number of workers imported to take American jobs WITHOUT PUBLIC ACCOUNTABILITY FOR WHAT THEY DO! (We're watching them!)

If you think Senators and all of Congress should be accountable for undermining American workers, HELP US PUT PRESSURE ON THEM! We've never needed donations to NumbersUSA Action more! Please give.

America's jobs market has been on a rollercoaster since the pandemic struck ... and the wheels have just fallen off. Last summer, millions of people were returning to work each month, but non-farm payrolls have actually declined since the election!

NumbersUSA puts a glaring spotlight on Congress. We are determined that every American voter knows what their elected representatives are really doing on immigration. That's why we've tallied and graded actions that directly impact overall immigration numbers of every member of Congress since 1996.

Then, as big immigration votes come up, we warn you about them. We even ferret out where immigration increases are hidden in bills and we tell you about that too. We write messages you can send to Congress by pressing a couple of buttons. THIS IS HOW DEMOCRACY WORKS!

Back to Congress seeking to hide their actions to import more and more temporary workers. Here's why adding more foreign workers now is so terribly wrong:

The unemployment rate dropped this month, but only because so many people have given up looking for work. Almost half of the jobs lost due to the pandemic haven't come back. Nationwide, the Congressional Budget Office projects that the unemployment rate won't fully recover from the damage caused by the coronavirus until 2026! And job losses are worse in precisely the states where foreign workers are most likely to arrive: California, New York, New Jersey, Texas.

Only 64% of Alaskans have jobs, compared to 70% before the pandemic, but Republican Senators Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan still seem to think that we need more foreign workers. Nearly 7% of Pennsylvanians are collecting unemployment, but their Republican Senator Pat Toomey acted as if there's a shortage of available workers.

Kentucky's employment has been particularly battered hard lately, but Rand Paul is unmoved. Arizona's unemployment has soared by over 100,000 in the last few months, but Kyrsten Sinema still wants more workers. And West Virginians still have no more jobs than they had 40 years ago!.. but Joe Manchin thinks we need more foreign workers?

Now that Pres. Biden is in office, you're going to see Republican office-holders bash high rates of immigration and American unemployment as if all of it is Biden's fault. And to be clear, so many of the very first actions the President has taken are unbelievably destructive to American workers. But when some Republican senators are still pushing for more immigration, you know the answer will have to transcend partisan politics.

That's where NumbersUSA comes in. We haven't forgotten the not-so-long ago years when both parties sought truly massive levels of illegal immigration... and legal immigration schemes that were economically harmful and also rewarded past illegal immigration.

Stopping terrible immigration bills is expensive. We cannot succeed without your help.

Our task is not to unelect "bad guys." It's to help elected officials -- and their voters -- recognize the harm of their misguided policies. Right now, too many people in Washington see their own constituents as their opponents. We're helping constituents effectively and productively reach out and help their elected officials understand their concerns and demands.

These are very troubling times. Together, we can help make sure Washington represents America. In doing so, we can even help improve American democracy.

We need your activism. But without the generosity of supporters like you, we can't make your message be heard... or millions of other messages.

Please give.

You can donate three ways:
