Friend,
We need to talk about something that is personal and close to my heart: The Equality Act.
As the first openly gay person of color elected to Congress, I was ecstatic when this legislation passed the House in 2019.
But due to stonewalling from Mitch McConnell, it didn't go anywhere.
I'll be honest: It was utterly heartbreaking to see such an important piece of legislation stalled to please the GOP's extreme right-wing base.
But now, with Democrats in control of the House, Senate, and the White House, we can finally pass this monumental piece of legislation.
So please: Will you sign our petition to demand that President Biden sign the Equality Act into law within his first 100 days? We need 10,000 good Democrats to sign on before midnight tonight. This would mean so much to me. »

Our nation was founded on the principle of liberty and justice for all, but for far too long, LGBTQ+ people have not enjoyed the same civil rights as their fellow Americans.
Right now, dozens of states have not passed protections on the basis of gender identity or sexual orientation.
The Equality Act would create anti-discrimination protections for LGBTQ people in employment, housing, and more.
It's far past time that we codify the Equality Act into law. So please, will you sign this petition and demand that President Biden sign this into law within his first 100 days? »
