We’ve seen a series of highs and lows in California, John.
We celebrated our first female African-American South Asian Vice-President, Kamala Harris and we cheered on the appointment of Dr. Shirley Weber as California’s first Black woman serving as Secretary of State.
These are huge victories on behalf of Californian communities of color! More diversity at the table only serves to benefit the millions of folks that call this state home and we are so excited to see Vice President Harris and Secretary Weber shine in their roles.
At the same time, we’ve also seen an influx of hate crimes against AAPI communities thanks to Trumpian racism as it relates to the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s unacceptable and when we talk about racial justice — we must also center our AAPI friends and neighbors.
Racial justice isn’t a Black or White issue. It’s going to require all of us to protect and uplift communities of color across California.
If you’re all in on keeping California a place that’s safe for and celebrates everyone’s accomplishments, let us know online. We’ll be watching your comments, tweets, and posts and we’ll share the most powerful ones.
