Steve Daines, United States Senator for Montana

*February 11, 2021*

Dear
John,

During his first weeks in office, President Biden
declared a war on Made in America energy. In his first week alone, the
President killed the Keystone XL pipeline, re-entered the disastrous Paris
Climate Agreement and put a ban on all new oil and gas leases on
federal lands. These actions strike at the heart of our Montana way of life.
These actions kill jobs and rob Montana counties of critical tax
revenue.

Cancelling the Keystone XL pipeline will cost hundreds of
jobs in Montana and eliminate $60-$80 million of tax revenue for our
rural communities each year. Sixty Montana workers in Fallon County have
already been laid off, their paychecks gone, their families left
wondering how they're going to pay for their groceries. This pipeline is not
only good for Montana workers, jobs and families, it's good for low
cost energy AND our national security.

I believe President Biden
should be helping Americans get back to work during the pandemic, not
the opposite. That's why I'm fighting back. I've introduced a bill in
the U.S. Senate to reverse President Biden's decision and
congressionally authorize the project. I hope all of my Senate colleagues cosponsor
my bill.

President Biden is catering to radical environmentalist
groups and abandoning our workers. It's unacceptable. As your voice in
the U.S. Senate, I will keep leading the fight to stand up for Made
in America energy and Montana jobs.
