John—
Earlier this week, Black Maternal Health Caucus leaders Reps. Lauren Underwood (IL-14) and Alma Adams (NC-12) introduced the Black Maternal Health Momnibus, a compilation of bills that are desperately needed to remedy the severe racial disparities in maternal health and mortality in the United States.
Thanks to the leadership of Black Mamas Matter Alliance and our other partners in the reproductive justice movement, we now have the opportunity to make real change, but only if we ensure our representatives take action now.

People of color — including Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) people — experience adverse maternal health outcomes at disproportionately high rates.
These disparities persist across education level, income, and geography. It’s clear that a systemic overhaul of how our country approaches racial equity in reproductive healthcare is our only way forward. For example, the CDC says: “Black mothers in the U.S. die at three to four times the rate of white mothers, one of the widest of all racial disparities in women’s health.” 1
