Water Sustainability Act and the Regulatory Approval Process

Join us online next Thursday, February 18th from 1:00-2:00 pm for a special live webinar presentation on the Water Sustainability Act and the Regulatory Approval Process.
Presented by WSP Canada Inc., this webinar is hosted jointly by CHBA-BC and HAVAN, and is free to CHBA-BC and HAVAN members, at no cost.
This webinar focuses on helping members better understand the provincial Water Act (RSBC 1979), Chapter 429 and its interpretation. Presented by Jacques Benoit, Susan Blundell, and Christie Lucas of WSP, this webinar will focus on understanding the basics of the Water Act, definitions and criteria, designation of what is a watercourse, application referrals and navigating the approval process. With a primary focus on Section 11 of the Act, information on Section will also be provided.
The format provides for 30-minute presentation and a 30-minute Q&A, ensuring an information and engaging session.

Posthaste: After a brief lull, Canada's priciest real estate market just got busier — and even more expensive

The Greater Vancouver area is seeing significant home sales in comparison to last year, with a rise of 52 per cent, according to The Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver (REBGV).
REBGV Chair, Colette Gerber, stated that shifting housing needs during the pandemic and historically low interest rates have been key drivers of demand in the market over the last six months. People who managed to enter the market a few years ago, and have seen their home values increase, are now looking to move up in the market to accommodate their changing needs.
Furthermore, a Reuters poll on global housing markets shows Canadians expect easy monetary policy and a desire for more living space to be key drivers of housing market activity this year.

Cranbrook year-end construction values top $93 million

Construction values over the last year in Cranbrook soared to $93 million, according to a report on quarterly and year-end numbers from city staff that was presented during Monday’s city council meeting.
It’s a significant increase from last year’s total of $46 million. Based on the 4th quarter (Q4) breakdowns, residential multi-family took the top value at $25 million, followed by residential at $7 million, while institutional and government each had values of $1.8 million.
In total, 253 building permits were issued in 2020, according to the city.
The city report also noted 18 permits for suites in single-family dwellings for Q4, with 51 over the course of the year.
