After Republican pressure, climate bureaucrat who wanted to "break the will," "turn the screws," on taxpayers resigns

WOBURN -- Massachusetts Republican Party Chairman Jim Lyons on Thursday praised a team of House Republicans whose strong and swift denouncement of a climate bureaucrat's call to "break the will" of the average citizen in order to achieve the commonwealth's carbon emissions goals helped lead to his resignation.

"The only way we can defeat the radical left and support the average citizen is if we hold nothing back and make sure a select group of House Republicans' voices are heard," Lyons said. "This is exactly the type of leadership we need in the Republican House caucus: people who will stand up and take on the radical left."

David Ismay, Gov. Charlier Baker's undersecretary for climate change, submitted his letter of resignation on Wednesday. Ismay's call to "break the will" and "turn the screws" on "you, the person up the street," and "the senior on fixed income," delivered during a video conference meeting last month with the Vermont Climate Council, was first unearthed last Friday by the Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance.

Ismay submitted his resignation letter just days after Republican state representative Nick Boldyga of Southwick and Marc Lombardo of Billerica led the efforts to demand Ismay's resignation. Five Republicans, including Donald Berthiaume of Spencer, David DeCoste of Norwell, Peter Durant of Spencer, Marc Lombardo of Billerica, Joseph McKenna of Webster, and Alyson Sullivan of Abington, signed on in support.

"Ordinary Massachusetts residents are tired of being lectured to by unelected leftist bureaucrats, and I could not be prouder of this team of House Republicans for sticking up for them," Lyons said. "Representatives Boldyga, Lombardo, Berthiaume, DeCoste, Durant, McKenna, and Sullivan are looking out for you, and I'm happy to see they're getting results."
