John xxxxxx,

The second impeachment trial of disgraced former President Donald Trump is now in its third day, and what we’ve seen and heard in opening arguments so far has been nothing short of disturbing.

Impeachment managers made a clear case of how in the months leading up to January 6th, Trump fanned the flames of extremism and inspired his followers to take violent action by pushing the Big Lie that the 2020 election was stolen from them.

Speech after speech, tweet after tweet, Trump riled up his base with lies and conspiracy theories, and urged them to take matters into their own hands on January 6th to “stop the steal.” By any means necessary. Like Trump told the crowds that afternoon, “You have to get your people to fight because you’ll never take back our country with weakness.” They heard him loud and clear.

Never-before-seen video and audio were played before the Senate yesterday, showing a violent, angry mob smashing windows, threatening to find and kill Democrats and Republicans alike, brutalizing Capitol police officers, and desecrating the very chamber where Senators are now carrying out their trial.

We saw the heroic efforts of Capitol police putting their bodies on the line to stop the insurrectionists, including Officer Eugene Goodman, who not only led rioters away from the Senate chamber, but seemingly saved Senator Mitt Romney’s life by directing him away from the oncoming crowd. We learned Senators were merely 58 steps away from the mob as they evacuated the Capitol. We watched Vice President Pence and his family members escape at the same time Trump was tweeting rhetorical attacks at him and his supporters chanted “Hang Mike Pence!”

And when all was said and done, President Trump told his violent insurrectionists, “You’re very special. We love you.”

This trial is a stark reminder of how Trump openly, willingly incited this insurrection on the U.S. government for months, up to and including the very moment his own Vice President and members of his party were at risk of losing their lives. And it reminded us just how worse it could have been had the seditious mob arrived just seconds earlier or had courageous officers not led them away.

It makes you wonder: how can any Senate Republican witness this powerful evidence and not vote to convict and disqualify Trump?

Here’s what’s infuriating: when Senators voted whether or not to proceed with the impeachment trial on Tuesday, all but six Republicans voted against it. All but six.

We need 17 Republican Senators to join every Democrat in order to convict Trump and bar him from holding public office in the future. This is our last and most important opportunity to hold him accountable. If only the same six Republicans join Democrats when all is said and done, then Trump will be free to wreak havoc on our country again. He will get away with inciting an insurrection. And the majority of Republicans will set the dangerous, chilling precedent that a president can inspire a domestic terrorist attack on the Congress and get away with it scot-free.

The trial is expected to end as soon as this Sunday, John xxxxxx. That means we have just days left to put pressure on Republicans to put politics aside and do the right thing by voting to convict and disqualify Trump.

Please, add your name alongside mine to demand every Senator, no matter what side of the aisle, vote to hold Donald Trump accountable and prevent this kind of treacherous and seditious behavior from ever happening again. [[link removed]]
