"Van Life" sounds idealistic and romantic. For some folks (like me) living a minimal life moving from place to place is a voluntary adventure. I've been doing it for the past two years and I've loved just about every second of it.

However, I chose to do it. This is what I wanted to do when my kids left home.

But many desperate Americans don't have that choice. They can no longer afford housing due to circumstances beyond their control.

The "lucky" ones have vans or old RVs. They are becoming "modern-day nomads" - and not by choice.
