Hello, we really shouldn't be surprised. After we called for State Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey's resignation, he doubled down on his dangerous remarks.

Yesterday, he was caught on a hot mic saying he doesn't take back his statement that the attack on the U.S. Capitol was a "hoax" that was "prearranged." As if his rhetoric wasn't alarming enough, he also has a long track record of sexism targeted at Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

He's called Governor Whitmer a "princess" — a term he likes to reserve specifically for his attacks against accomplished women — he even joked about challenging her to a fistfight and bragged about "spanking" her by resisting her legislative agenda.

Name calling is the only trick Mike Shirkey knows when challenged by a powerful woman. And he's downright scared of the fact that Governor Whitmer is a better leader than he is.
