House Bill 279 would help the wealthy, while starving public education. To make matters even worse, the tax credit would apply to corporations, too!
MOFE

You can’t make this up: the Montana legislature is considering bumping the tax credit for donations to private for-profit schools from $125 to $200,000. You read that right. House Bill 279 would help the wealthy, while starving public education. To make matters even worse, the tax credit would apply to corporations, too!

If you can afford to donate $200,000 to a private school, do you really need a tax credit? Probably not.

While wealthy individuals, corporations, and special interests get tax credits for supporting exclusive schools under HB 279, Montana’s public schools lose essential funding. That’s just not right. If we’ve learned anything during this pandemic, it’s that Montana’s public schools are the hearts of our communities.

Can you do more? Montanans Organized for Education (MOFE) is dedicated to protecting Montana’s public schools, but we need your help. Every dollar donated to MOFE goes towards organizing Montana communities to push back on out-of-state interests that want to starve Montana’s public schools of funding and privatize education for profit.
