Hello, West Texans!

What a warm welcome you gave us in Lubbock this week!  We had anticipated about 30-40 people... and were greeted with over 90! It was wonderful to be with you all.  Your enthusiasm and appreciation was so encouraging!

We had to open up the divider wall and add more chairs!

Here are a few things to note:

  • Our next meeting is March 8.  Mark your calendars!
  • Spread the word about this group.
  • Sign up by emailing [email protected] to be on our Citizen Advocate team.
  • See the note from co-director Kelli Porter below regarding ways to help out!
  • Ignore media!  We received a not-so-warm-welcome from a local newspaper guy who pretty much got every fact wrong... which is no wonder since he didn't bother to even come to us with questions but wrote the hit piece he wanted to write.
  • We do allow all candidates to speak at our meetings for 30 seconds.  One guy who calls himself "Gus" portrayed himself as one of us to seek your vote for Mayor.  He later wrote me a nasty email telling me we are not welcome in Lubbock and to never come back.  I asked why, and he said all of your elected officials are great people and do not need to be held accountable.  LOL  I felt obligated to share that tidbit with you!  He was sure the whole room agreed with him, and he told me you were all just too polite to say so.  I told him I'd check with you.  ;-)

Ok, with those notes out of the way... here's a word from Kelli.  She and Jim Baxa share the co-director responsibilities and are your go-to contacts for TTP Lubbock County!

First of all, THANK YOU for joining us Monday night! We were so enthused by the turnout of our first meeting in Lubbock. We know that great things are on the horizon. We look forward to working with you all to hold our representatives accountable in our local and state government and to make our voices heard.

As we mentioned, we need volunteers to help. Below is a list of volunteer positions to be filled. If you have any questions or are ready to commit, please email your co-directors, Kelli at [email protected] or Jim at [email protected].

Registration Lead and Team – check people in; collect registration cards; hand out first time visitor bags; keep attendance

Hospitality Lead and Team – put out signs; greet people as they arrive; help folks find seats

Venue Coordinator – go-between for True Texas Project and the venue to communicate room set-up, needs, solve problems as they arise

Food Coordinator & 1 helper – bring in pizza, waters, plates, and napkins; sell it

Childcare coordinator and Team – we love to offer childcare at our meetings because it has really helped us bring in young adults.  The coordinator takes reservations and schedules workers.

Money Handler & 1 helper – pass the hat at meetings to cover expenses for venue; collect pizza money; make deposits

Time Keeper – sit in the front row and let our speakers know when their time is up!

Prayer Coordinator – at 5:45pm before every meeting, we like to have a prayer team meet to cover the meeting and all our activities in prayer; sometimes you are praying alone, but sometimes a dozen folks might show up.  This person also opens our meetings in prayer.

VIP Greeter – greets any guest speakers to let them know where to be and when, gives them water, sends a thank you note

Merchandiser – sets up a table with sample merchandise that True Texas Project sells; hands people a card with the web address to make purchases; takes samples home and brings them back each month

Thanks again for showing up. We look forward to seeing you and a friend or two next month!

Thanks,
Kelli

True Texas Project is blowing and going! People are coming to us in droves ready to take action against a bloated government, and we are working as hard as we can to help meet needs, get people trained, and open new locations. We've even got people from out of state seeking our help!  We MUST maximize this opportunity.  We figure we have about a 3-month window to catch folks while they are paying attention, and once we get them, we believe we can hold onto them for life.

All that being said, True Texas Project is funded 100% by donations from individuals.  The BEST way to help us is to donate a set amount every month so we can set a budget, but we love one-time donations too!  You can donate to our general fund (a c4 organization), our PAC (which primarily funds our voter guides during the Primary Election), or to our tax-deductible c3 organization which focuses solely on non-partisan education. Click here for more information and to donate.  We cannot do anything without you, and every bit helps!  Our average donation is $15/month...  That's not a lot, but a little bit from everybody sure adds up!

And don't forget!  Our big fundraiser Texas Tough, Texas Proud is April 17!  Check out this 25-second promo clip, and buy your tickets today!
