I’ll cut straight to the point -- there isn’t much dignity in a job when hard work doesn’t pay the bills.
But for nearly half of Americans who work in low-wage jobs with median hourly wages below $15, their jobs don’t pay the bills.
Something has to change.
I introduced a measure that would increase the federal minimum wage to $15 by 2025. I need grassroots activists like you to raise your voice and put pressure on Republicans to act. Will sign on your support today?
For too many Americans, hard work isn’t paying off. For many workers of color, it never paid off to begin with -- right now, nearly half of all Black and Latino workers make less than $15 an hour.
This measure would increase wages for nearly 32 million Americans, including roughly a third of all Black workers and a quarter of all Latino workers.
Rebuilding our economy so it works for everyone must begin with honoring the Dignity of Work, ensuring living wages for all workers, and closing the racial wealth gap in our country.
Please -- add your name and join me in calling for raising the minimum wage for tens of millions of workers.
The pandemic has laid bare the shortfalls of our economy.
Essential workers -- health care workers, grocery store clerks, restaurant workers -- are keeping our country going during this health crisis, but their wages don’t reflect the value of their contributions, and they’re not reaping the benefits of the economic growth they create.
Raising the minimum wage is a crucial step in delivering the economic relief Americans urgently need and rebuilding our economy in a more equitable way for all workers. If you agree, add your name today.
With gratitude,
Sherrod
