Friend,
I owe my landlord more than $15,000 that I will never be able to pay back. Unless Governor Cuomo cancels rent, my family will lose our home.
Can you take a moment to write to your state representatives to demand that New York tax the rich to cancel rent? Click here to write a letter.
I lost my job as a housecleaning last spring. I don’t qualify for unemployment or for any of the federal stimulus money. So I have not had income for almost a year. Right now, I am struggling to get food for my family while recovering from COVID for the second time.
I know that I am not alone. There are hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers in the same boat as me. And even more who receive some assistance but are still struggling to make rent each month.
But not everyone in New York is struggling. In fact, New York’s richest have gotten $77 billion richer since the pandemic started.
Our state can afford to cancel rent, provide relief for excluded workers and do so much more to invest in our communities. Write a letter to your elected officials and demand that they tax the rich to cancel rent. Click here to write a letter.
During this pandemic, everyday people all over the state have come together to support each other. But the billionaires have used it as the opportunity to hoard even more wealth. Our economy will only recover when working people have money. Governor Cuomo must end tax breaks for the wealthy and start investing in our New York.
