Minister Ng speaks with Mexico’s Secretary of Economy

The Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade, spoke with Tatiana Clouthier Carrillo, Mexico’s Secretary of Economy, on February 9, 2021.

Minister Ng congratulated Secretary Clouthier on her appointment, and both ministers affirmed their commitment to working closely on the implementation of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA). Minister Ng and Secretary Clouthier discussed their ongoing efforts to ensure a fast, sustainable and inclusive economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, including by maintaining open and connected supply chains.

Minister Ng also highlighted the important role that high labour standards play in creating the best possible conditions for job creation, growth and prosperity for people throughout North America.

During their conversation, Minister Ng stressed the importance of maintaining a stable and predictable business environment for Canadian companies contributing to Mexico’s economic growth.

Minister Ng and Secretary Clouthier discussed Canada and Mexico’s shared objectives at the World Trade Organization (WTO), most notably the importance of preserving and enhancing the rules-based trading system. They also agreed to further their discussions on advancing these priorities through continued collaboration in the Ottawa Group on WTO reform.
