Today, Jamie Raskin and the House impeachment managers showed in painstaking and sometimes graphic detail how over a period of many months Donald Trump incited the violent attack on the Capitol on January 6th.
They showed never-before-seen video of how close the mob Trump incited came -- measured in feet, seconds, and in one case a single locked door -- to assassinating Vice President Mike Pence and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, and murdering members of Congress, their families, and staffers.
On NBC, Katie Hunt said voting to acquit just got "a lot harder." Chuck Todd said "history will not be kind" to senators who vote to acquit.
We can win this. Our new TV ad shows Jamie Raskin's opening argument warning senators not to create a new "January exception" where presidents can get away with insurrection and high crimes in their final weeks.
We are specifically buying ads between 7am and 10am before senators go to the Capitol -- and at night after they leave the trial.
The Nation reports, "Raskin’s rhetoric was so powerful that the Progressive Change Campaign Committee immediately announced that it would air cable television ads featuring his debunking of not just the absurd arguments of Trump’s haphazard legal team but also the broader suggestion that this trial is somehow unnecessary or extraneous to “the real work” of governing."
Raskin said, "The January exception is an invitation to our founders' worst nightmare. It's an invitation to the president to take his best shot at anything he may want to do on his way out the door, including using violent means to block the peaceful transfer of power. Their argument is that if you commit an impeachable offense in your last few weeks -- you get away with it."
This is exactly the argument that we previewed in recent days by pumping our first TV ad featuring Raskin into the nation's capital on MSNBC, FOX, and CNN.
When we aired our first Raskin ad, we got positive feedback from people in Congress, reporters, political allies, and activists. This new ad is just as powerful -- and just as important for senators to see again and again.
