Today, as part of the latest expansion of COVID-19 vaccine eligibility, the members of the City Council and I received our first doses of the vaccine at New Orleans East Hospital. This was an especially exciting and important opportunity, and the Council members and I felt it was crucial to use it as a chance to send a united message to all New Orleanians: get vaccinated.
Obviously, starting the vaccination process gives me the peace of mind that I will soon be protected from the virus. But most importantly, the City Council and I were able to set an example and send the message to the public that this vaccine is safe and is our best way out of this pandemic.
The location where we got our shots had its own significance as well. Being at New Orleans East Hospital highlighted our desire for all of our communities to get the vaccine. In addition, it also gave us a chance to once again urge our healthcare workers in particular to get vaccinated.
With the vaccine finally here, we're starting to see the beginning of the end of this pandemic. The days are coming soon when we can once again focus fully on the work of moving our great city forward.
