Hi John,
My name is Jamaal Bowman. I represent New York's 16th District, the Bronx and Westchester, in Congress. I was a Truth to Power-endorsed candidate during the 2020 election cycle.
On my third day as congressman, Washington was swarmed by white supremacists and emboldened fascists who attempted a violent coup in our Capitol. Five people lost their lives.
That's why I introduced the Congressional Oversight of Unjust Policing Act to uncover how this attack was able to breach the Capitol building. This bill seeks to establish a commission to investigate the attack that happened on January 6th and possible ties between white supremacists and Capitol Police.
John, this is what speaking truth to power means to me. It's about dismantling white supremacy in all our institutions. It's about turning our bold, progressive ideas into legislation. It's about holding bad actors accountable, taking back our power by the grassroots, and leading with love and compassion. And it's important, now more than ever, to have more people who are willing to do that in the halls of Congress.

Take it from me: the work that's needed to build a sustainable movement is not easy. It goes beyond any one election year, or beyond any one president. That's what makes your support of Truth to Power so vital.
After four years of Donald Trump, now is our moment to rebuild our country and change the world. We need to rebuild our democracy, restore trust in our leadership, and make sure that the needs of our constituents and communities are met—without compromise. How much work we're willing to put in now will make all the difference.
Peace and love,
Jamaal Bowman
