John,
President Biden signed three executive orders dealing with reforming our broken and inhumane immigration system — but none addressed family detention centers. Children and their families deserve a fair opportunity to present cases for asylum, because seeking asylum is legal.
Pennsylvania is home to one of three family detention centers in the country. In a nation built by immigrants, deporting families who are seeking refuge is un-American. Our nation must do better, and that's why Dwight is joining activists across the nation and colleagues in Congress in demanding we close family detention centers once and for all.
It's simple, John: in the land of opportunity, we shouldn't be imprisoning families and children who are seeking a better life. Join Dwight in calling on the Biden administration to close family detention centers for good.
The existence of family detention centers is a huge human rights violation. What's worse: these crimes are funded by our tax dollars.
Currently, there are 33 men, women, and children detained at the Berks County Residential Center in Pennsylvania. There are 511 more asylum seekers imprisoned in Texas. Those imprisoned should be released to live with their families or sponsors in the United States. And these detention centers must close for good.
Seeking asylum in the U.S. is legal — detaining men, women, and children against their will for months isn't. Join Dwight in demanding the Biden administration close family detention centers.
Thank you,
Team Evans
