This weekend, people around the world will be celebrating their love for friends, family, and communities on Valentine’s Day. Tomorrow, we need you to get involved and show your love for democracy.
Tomorrow, Thursday February 11, at 5:30 PM ET / 2:30 PM PT join People For and our coalition partners for an activist event in support of the For The People Act (H.R. 1) with special guests Debra Messing and Anjelika Washington! You won’t want to miss out on this unique opportunity!
When you sign up, please make sure to list ‘People For the American Way’ (or just ‘People For’) on the registration form where it asks how you heard about this event.
We love democracy. But there’s a lot we can do to make it better. Our democracy needs strengthened voting rights, less money in politics, and more ethics regulations in government. The For The People Act has provisions to make all of those things – and more - happen. And we need your help to keep up the drumbeat supporting its passage in the House.
At 5:30 PM ET / 2:30 PM PT, we’ll all hop on the Zoom call to have a valentine writing party to urge congressmembers to pass the For The People Act.
Then at 6:00 PM ET / 3:00 PM PT, you can also join in on a virtual phonebank to call activists who live in target congressmember districts. If you haven’t done a virtual phonebank before, don’t worry – the organizers will run a quick training for everyone right at 6:00 PM ET!
This event promises to be a fun virtual way to get involved in supporting democracy reform, and we hope you can join us!
In the last Congress, every single House Democrat cosponsored and voted for the For The People Act, so we want to thank them for their prior support last year and encourage them to cosponsor and vote for it again now that we have a real chance to pass it. If you don’t know if your member of Congress is currently cosponsoring or is new to Congress, you can tailor your valentine to focus on what you LOVE about the For The People Act.
Make sure you sign up ASAP, and bring your friends! The For The People Act would put power where it belongs, in the hands of the people. What’s not to love about that?
