John,

A new report has revealed that the NRA’s decades of violent, extreme rhetoric is partially to blame for the failed coup at the Capitol on January 6. Here’s the headline:

The report indicates that nine of the insurrectionists who were arrested had “enough ammunition to shoot every member of the House and Senate five times.”

And what did the NRA say about the armed insurrection in the immediate aftermath? Nothing. While even members of Congress who helped incite the violence released statements of condemnation, the NRA refused to comment for nine days.

And when they did speak, it was just a statement posted seven minutes before they filed for bankruptcy — a move they have since made clear was not about financial insolvency. As predicted, it is just an attempt to circumvent justice and avoid the lawsuit brought by the New York Attorney General.

Here’s the truth: The NRA was complicit in what happened on January 6. They spent years fanning the flames of authoritarianism.

And now, they are trying to restructure and rebuild the NRA in Texas because they realize our movement has the momentum. We have the political will and popular support on our side, but they are not done trying to stop us from passing gun safety legislation. So we need your help:

Will you please make a $3 donation today to help me continue leading the effort in Congress to end gun violence? The gun lobby will spend whatever it takes to try to stop us, but if we are all together here, then I know that they are no match for our grassroots movement.

We must continue to hold the NRA accountable. They have used scare tactics for decades to line the pockets of gun manufacturers and enrich their own leadership, and as January 6 proved, their fearmongering is dangerous and unacceptable. Enough is enough.

Thank you for standing with me in this fight.

- Lucy
