Tweet POTUS about
climate on Presidents' Day

The news coming out of the new administration on climate change has been very encouraging, with President Biden committing the U.S. to rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement and laying out an ambitious agenda to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.

With Presidents’ Day coming up on Feb. 15, we thought this would be a good time to tweet our support to both Biden and Vice President Harris to work toward bipartisan climate solutions in Congress that include carbon fee and dividend as a foundational policy. We’re calling this our Presidents’ Day Tweetstorm.

On Monday, use our tweet POTUS tool to send messages to the president and vice president. If you need help, check out this training about Twitter in CCL Community.

TWEET ON MONDAY

George Shultz dies at 100: Former Secretary of State George Shultz, a member of CCL’s advisory board, passed away last weekend. Late in life, following a distinguished career in government, he became his party’s elder statesman, pushing conservatives to back a market-based solution to climate change. For an appreciation and the story behind how he became a supporter of CCL, check out our latest blog post. You can also read and retweet a statement from CCL Executive Director Mark Reynolds.

CCL Youth site launched: CCL has always believed that the power, passion and energy of young people is essential in the fight to preserve a livable world, and now we’ve launched a website specifically designed to support our youthful volunteers. Check out the new website and share it with friends.

Communications opening at CCL: If you have a background in media and want to help our volunteers with their local media efforts, CCL is looking for a State & Local Media Coordinator. Learn more and apply here. Also, applications are still being accepted for a Government Affairs Coordinator and a Conservative Outreach Director.

Janet Yellen video: Our new Treasury Secretary, Janet Yellen, is a strong supporter of carbon pricing as a tool to bring down carbon emissions. Check out our video on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to hear how Yellen plans to use her position to address climate change.

If you have a little time: Join our February national call with Diane Randall, general secretary of the Friends Committee on National Legislation, an advocacy organization that encourages and supports members to engage with lawmakers on peace and justice issues. The call is this Saturday, Feb. 13, at 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT. Download this month’s actions and get details on connecting to the call here

If you have more time:  Check out the webinar with Elissa Raffa from FOX46 in Charlotte, NC, who offers guidance on how to encourage TV and radio station meteorologists and staff to talk about climate change on air.  The workshop is hosted by the Meteorologists Outreach Action Team. Details here.

Grasstops: Record week for endorsements

As we build support for the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act, endorsements from elected officials, community leaders, businesses, athletes and celebrities are playing a big role in our campaign to influence members of Congress. Last week, our volunteers set a record, securing 39 endorsements, 16 from organizations and 23 from prominent individuals like Olympic cross-country skier Kaitlin Miller (shown above). If you know a prominent individual or organization that might want to endorse the legislation, send them to the Energy Innovation Act endorser form.

CCL volunteers are regularly activating the “five levers” of political will in their communities. If you’d like to learn more about how to pull the grasstops lever like these volunteers did, watch or read one of these trainings on grasstops engagement.
