Yesterday, the Senate began the impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump.
I voted to impeach in the House because Trump betrayed his oath of office by inciting a violent mob to attack the United States Capitol on January 6th, an event that hit me hard personally, and I have seen so much suffering among my colleagues and the US Capitol Police. Even worse, the events of January 6th shook our democracy to its core.
In order to heal and move on from these events, we need accountability for those responsible. We need to show that nobody, even a former President, is above the law.
I urge the Senate to follow suit and convict Donald Trump for his crimes against the American people.
As many of you know, I am currently representing one of the most competitive House districts in the country, a district that could decide which party holds the majority after 2022. My opponent is a Trump-loyalist who had his ringing endorsement in the last election.
