Friend,
I ran for our state’s top office on a promise to build a better Georgia for ALL Georgians.
From Day One of my campaign, and then of my administration, expanding access to high-speed broadband internet in our rural communities has been among my top priorities.
In recent years, high-speed internet has become more and more essential – for our businesses and farms, our schools, our hospitals and clinics, and more. Over the last 12 months, as life has increasingly moved online, this point has been hammered home.
That’s why I was so proud to help unveil a plan this week to build high-speed broadband lines, which will reach 80,000 homes and businesses that currently lack access! You can read more on this week’s announcement here.
It’s outstanding news, Friend. This is a huge step forward to expand rural access to high-speed internet, representing the largest such expansion since I signed legislation into law that allows local electric membership corporations to offer broadband service.
Yet we still have a TON of work to do. Today, more than 500,000 Georgia homes and businesses lack access to adequate internet speeds. That’s 11 percent of our state.
We must continue to pursue creative solutions to get the job done.
Check out the article on this new plan we’ve unveiled here. I’ll be sure to keep you posted on additional developments as we work to close the gap on this urban-rural divide.
