Hi John,
You may have already seen my name in a few places, but I want to take this chance to reach out and OFFICIALLY introduce myself.
I’m Nilofar Ganjaie, NIAC’s new Deputy Executive Director! While I’ve only officially been on the staff for a few weeks, I’ve been involved with NIAC’s mission since 2019 when I was the first person elected to the NIAC Action Board of Directors by our members. Before NIAC, I was the Political & Communications Director for the Senate Democrats in my home state of Washington, working to elect real representation by putting people over politics at the state level.
As an Iranian-American growing up in Washington state, I witnessed first hand NIAC's support of our community. When the xenophobic Muslim Ban was first enacted, NIAC fought back and advocated for families like mine. When legal citizens and green card holders of Iranian heritage were detained at the Washington/Canada border last year, NIAC demanded answers. NIAC has been the Iranian-American community's number one champion--and I'm so proud to now be a part of a team dedicated to building political power for our community.
With a new administration in the White House, we’ve got a lot on our plate this year, John. That’s why I am getting straight to work on the issues our community cares about most—repealing the Muslim Ban (a recent victory!), re-entering the Iran nuclear deal, and advancing peace and diplomacy.
We have big, bold plans and a bright future ahead of us, John. I’m so excited to be in this with you.
Let’s get to work!
Nilofar Ganjaie
Deputy Executive Director, NIAC
