We're excited to share the news that Senate Democrats have reintroduced legislation to grant Washington, D.C. statehood.
Senator Elizabeth Warren, a co-sponsor of the bill, is prepared to lead the fight for a more representative democracy once again, saying “Washington, DC has more residents than Wyoming or Vermont. They pay federal taxes. But they don't have equal representation or full control over their local laws & National Guard. I'm glad to once again cosponsor the DC statehood bill. Let's get this done.”
Republicans have introduced countless bills to block D.C. statehood because they fear it'll guarantee two new liberal senators in Congress -- and we know it'll be an uphill battle to ensure that the over 700,000 Americans that live in our nation's capital get the representation they deserve.
