URGENT: Toxic heavy metals found in baby food!

A shocking congressional report has revealed dangerously high levels of toxic heavy metals, including lead, arsenic and mercury, in popular baby foods.

The Food and Drug Administration and the World Health Organization agree that exposure to even low levels of some heavy metals can cause serious and often irreversible damage to babies’ brains. Sadly the levels found in the baby food tested and their ingredients are terribly high, including up to 91 times the arsenic level and 177 times the lead level the FDA sets for drinking water.

This is unacceptable. The FDA needs to do more to protect our kids from brain-damaging heavy metals. Will you join us in demanding the FDA take immediate action to protect our kids?

EWG experts recommend avoiding baby food that contains ingredients testing high in toxic heavy metals, such as rice, and looking for alternatives to rice-based foods (even for adults!). Make sure to watch out for rice syrup, often used as a sweetener in processed foods, too.

But ultimately, the federal government must act to lower heavy metal levels in the food supply. Currently manufacturers have almost no responsibility to test their products for heavy metals or warn consumers if heavy metals are present. Insane!

The FDA needs to take immediate action to protect babies from toxic heavy metals. Some toxic heavy metals can cause permanent brain damage in kids. FDA should set tough standards that protect our babies and require product testing.

These are commonsense steps the FDA can take TODAY to make our food safer. But we need to make sure the agency hears us. Will you add your voice to our petition today?
