Dear friend,

HIAS applauds the early actions President Biden has taken to repair our broken
immigration system and restore our country’s proud humanitarian traditions.

Within its first 30 days, the administration has raised the annual refugee
admissions cap to 62,500 from last year’s record low of just 15,000. President
Biden also signed additional executive orders rolling back Trump-era immigration
policies — orders that will help officials begin the work of reuniting families
separated at our southern border and that put the “Remain in Mexico” policy
under review.

These policy changes will alleviate some of the hardships displaced families
face as they confront the pandemic. They also uphold our shared promise to
welcome those seeking safety within our borders.

While these changes are a crucial first step, the work for HIAS and our partners
across the country is not over. Restoring compassion and common sense to our
asylum and refugee policies will be a long process.

Right now, HIAS is working around the clock to provide refugees and asylum
seekers with legal aid, mental health services, and other vital assistance as
they rebuild their lives in safety. With many families still unable to afford
food or rent and many others stuck living in detention centers without clean
water or medical care, your support today is essential.

Please, make a gift of $18 or more right now — anything
you can spare helps — to provide urgently needed support to refugees and asylum
seekers in their search for freedom from persecution.
