Let’s be clear: On January 6th, President Donald Trump incited a violent insurrection on our Capitol. That kind of despicable attack on our country cannot be ignored or swept under the rug.

If we are going to have real healing and unity, we need truth and accountability. That is why Donald Trump was impeached and why today, we’ve begun his impeachment trial. 

This could be one of our only chances to understand what happened on January 6th and why, and we can’t afford to to let that opportunity slip past us. 

The American people need to hear the truth -- and Donald Trump needs to be held accountable.

I’ll keep you posted as to any updates and information you need to know throughout the trial, but also rest assured that the Senate will also be working hard on the progress the American people need and deserve, including COVID relief, decriminalizing marijuana, canceling student debt, and continuing to confirm President Biden’s cabinet nominees.
