News from Representative Allred

February 9, 2021

Dear Friend,

One of my most important jobs as your Congressman is to be your liaison to the federal government. With tax season underway, I wanted to make sure you are aware that if you need help preparing and filing your tax return, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) offers programs that provide free tax help, and tools to track your COVID-related stimulus payments. If you run into issues with the IRS, my office is here to help. Below you’ll find some important resources to keep handy this tax season.

Stimulus Payments

Last year, I helped to pass two sweeping, bipartisan coronavirus relief packages which included two rounds of direct payments to individuals. Eligible North Texans should have received both COVID-19 related stimulus payments by now.

Have you received your stimulus payments?

Yes

No

*By participating in the survey, you agree to receive periodic updates from Rep. Allred.

If you haven’t received your payment, the IRS has a helpful online tool:

"Get My Payment"
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) launched the "Get My Payment" web app where individuals can track the status of their economic impact payment and taxpayers can submit their banking direct deposit information to speed up delivery of their payment.

You can access the IRS “Get My Payment” tool here.

If you didn’t get the full Economic Impact Payment, or you received less than the full amount, you may be eligible to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on your taxes. Please visit the IRS website for more information on claiming the Recovery Rebate Credit.

For more information on other COVID-related tax relief for businesses and individuals, please visit the IRS coronavirus web page.

Free Tax Preparation Help

Folks who earn less than $57,000 per year, have a disability, speak limited English, or are over 60 years old, can visit the IRS website for information on the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program. To find IRS-certified volunteers across North Texas who can help with tax preparation and filing, visit: https://irs.treasury.gov/freetaxprep.

Additionally, if your income is $72,000 or below, you can file your taxes for free using the IRS’ Free File program. More information can be found on the IRS website at www.irs.gov.

Help from Rep. Allred’s office

As your Representative, I can often help if you run into issues like a stalled tax return or stimulus payment.

Last year, I helped John from Dallas recover his almost $5,000 tax refund. After John filed his taxes, the IRS informed him that they would not process his refund for the foreseeable future due to delays caused by the pandemic. After months of waiting, and many unsuccessful attempts to get a status update from the IRS, John contacted my office for help. I immediately pressed the IRS for answers and John’s refund was deposited into his account within nine days.

If you encounter any issues with the IRS, or any other federal agency, please call my office for assistance at (972) 972-7949 or start a case online on my website. We are here to help.

Sincerely,
